A GOOD FIND TODAY!

Here is a great start to the floor. This is from a deck tearout over by White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas. This material will be machined into shiplap. Next week I will be looking at some material out of a house in East Texas that was built in the 1800's. The history behind these materials makes it interesting.

Cost To Date $190.31

ANOTHER FUN SIGN!

I really like this sign too. Maybe it would work to just swap the signs every now and then.

THE OLD WOODEN SASH WINS OVER THE ALUMINUM WINDOW

The half round window seemed like a good window to put in the back gable, but after digging this one out, it seems to have a better feel. I have the missing glass for this, and is not frosted, just years of film. This is a sash from a double hung window from a very old house in Fort Worth, Texas.

DR PEPPER SIGNS ARE ALSO PRETTY COOL

The barge rafters give a 12" overhang. The door will be a standard 36x80. There will be a soffitt right above the door that will wall up to the barges. This will help protect the door from rain and still give a wall for a sign and an old light fixture. Being able to use items from my long time collection makes this little project lots of fun!

HAVING FUN DIGGING OUT THE OLD STUFF

I just love this sign, but it is too big. Guess I'll have to build a larger building next time!

DOLLARS ON THE TRAILER

I dug around today and found a few pieces that will work on the building.

8 MORE LANDSCAPE TIMBER RAFTERS AND IT IS READY TO PUT THE 4 CORNER POLES UP ON CONCRETE PADS, LEVEL, SQUARE, AND FILL IN WITH 2X4 STUDS.

Looking around for some things to use on this project, I ran across an old gas yard light that Lone Star Gas used to sell and install. It has an eagle on top. I think I'll convert it to electrical and mix it in with the pines and let it light the way to the building.

Cost To Date Is Still $155.59

COST THROUGH TODAY

Although I'm trying to use as many salvaged materials as possible, buying the landscape timbers new was more practical. The materials purchased to date are...

66 feet of 8 inch telephone pole                     99.00
17 landscape timbers  ( 2.97 ea.
at Lowe's minus 10.00 off card )                     43.80

                                                                      $142.80  To Date

THESE TIMBERS ARE WORKING WELL

This is feeling pretty solid.

IT'S WINDY AND COLD TODAY, BUT I'M READY TO GET THIS FRAMED

After looking at different options, I decided to use landscape timbers to finish the rough framing. These are low cost and sturdy. This load is half of them.

It Is Cold And Windy This Afternoon (What Happened To Spring?) So I Am Just Gathering Parts To Use This Weekend

I've been holding on to this window for about 10 years looking for a place to use it. This should work well in the gable on the back side. The natural light will be nice.

Telephone Pole Structure Done

I think if this building blows around it will blow in one piece. This should be a sturdy frame to build on.

Two More Pieces To Go On The Pole Frame

I just had a couple of hours to work on the building today. Two more pieces to go with the telephone poles. The rail at the back, and the one down the center. This is going to be built with as little retail purchases as possible, but in the end a stout nice building. I'm looking daily for salvaged materials and fun stuff to use.

I'm Thinking Being A Logger Would Be Hard Work!

Life got in the way of day two. The wheel that squeaks the loudest gets the grease. The garden was soaked due to a leak in the water line, so it got the grease. That didn't leave much time to work on the little building, but I did get the other post and rails cut and ready to notch.

A Little Rustic Building In The Country

This is day one for a new project. This is going to be another little building. This one will be my tool shed. The telephone poles will be exposed on the corners and along the bottom. I don't have plans drawn out for this, so we will see how it goes. I have been collecting things for about 25 years, and would like to use some of them in this project. Things like old doors, old gas station lights, old signs, old hardware, and etc. Don't look for heat and air in this one! I'll use as many salvaged parts as possible. This might turn out pretty cool!

What Do You Do With A Stack Of Telephone Poles?

Well, it's time for another blog project. I bought this stack of poles about 6 months ago. I have had several ideas as how to use them. This is going to be a little project out in the country. It will be nowhere as intricate as Kensington Cottage or The Pirate Princess Beach House, but it will be fun!

THE PIRATE PRINCESS BEACH HOUSE IS READY!

Thanks for following this little project (actually it was a hugh project). It was lots of fun. I really enjoyed working with Amber, Brecken, and Emma. I know they will get many years of enjoyment out of this little house.
